EPI-Focus Issue 14 – Newsletter of the IBE European Regional Executive Committee (EREC)

Dear Friends Time flies and we are already wrapping up the year 2019. Let me highlight some trends and achievements of this year globally and in Europe. In January, the IBE International Executive Committee (IEC) came together with the aim of planning its strategy. Stakeholder engagement and empowering voices of young people with epilepsy in our community, training and supporting epilepsy advocates and lay experts, expanding collaborative actions together with ILAE and other governmental and non-governmental organizations, were considered as major priorities. I am happy that these plans have already turned into action. I believe that the “Golden Light Awards” and the session featuring presentations by the awardees at International Epilepsy Congress in Bangkok in June was a big victory, inspiring young people from all over the world to stand up for epilepsy. In October, in Dublin, the European Regional Executive Committee organized a workshop “Hear My Story” for young people with epilepsy. By the way, the European “Golden Lights” also participated in this workshop. Participants planned four different projects and a special joint action for International Epilepsy Day next February. European chapters of the IBE and ILAE are working together for common research projects in the Epilepsy Alliance Europe task [...]

EPI-Focus Issue 13 – Newsletter of the IBE European Regional Executive Committee (EREC)

Dear Friends Preparing this message, I was looking through previous issues of EPI-Focus and the short introductions of us, newly elected EREC members in issue number 11. Some- thing caught the eye. It was Maggan’s introduction which she started with: “My name is Margaretha Andersson but everyone calls me Maggan!” and her picture, reflecting her joy, strength and charm shines from the journal page. And I remember the video conference calls of our group, where Maggan appeared sometimes with a glass of wine, bringing so much positive energy, new ideas and courage for changing things and starting new projects. So, I find it very difficult to start my first message from the chair with the words: “Rest in peace, Maggan.” In this issue you will find stories from all over the Europe: from Norway, Spain, Germany, Austria, Malta, Ireland, Slovenia and Georgia. The stories are as different as the countries, but all are beautiful and focused on different needs of the epilepsy community. EPI-Focus lets us share our experiences and tell our sto- ries to each other and this is great! I hope you will enjoy this issue and perhaps send us your news and stories for the next issue! Kind [...]

EPI-Focus Issue 12 – Newsletter of the IBE European Regional Executive Committee (EREC)

Message from the Chair: We are happy to present the latest issue of Epifocus, the magazine from and for the European Chapters of IBE. This issue is packed with articles from a.o. Germany, Malta, Norway, Slovenia and Spain, showcasing recent activities. We are introducing a new Chapter Spotlight section to Epifocus. The first Chapter in the spotlights is Georgia and EREC’s co-chair introduces the Georgian Chapter to us. Chapters unfortunately often aren’t aware of what another Chapter does, what challenges they face and what successes they have achieved. We feel this is a nice way to start to build up interaction, to share good practices and we encourage you to contribute to this section. I particularly want to draw your attention to an important item in this issue of Epifocus in which we reflect on the feedback received from our Chapters about our work. This feedback has been very important in shaping the discussions over the past months internally at IBE and we want to thank all of you who have been open and shared your thoughts with us. We are also delighted to announce the launch of the website for the Erasmus+ funded European project ‘Epipicto’ to develop a pictorial [...]
