The 5th Latin American Epilepsy Congress will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 5th to 9th November 2009. The Welcome Message of the Chairs of the Organising Committee is available below in Spanish and in English.

BIENVENIDO

Estimados Colegas y Amigos:

Es con gran placer que nos dirigimos a ustedes para invitarles cordialmente, a participar en el 5to. Congreso Latinoamericano de Epilepsia. El congreso se celebrará bajo los auspicios de la Liga Internacional Contra la Epilepsia y el Buró Internacional Para la Epilepsia, en Montevideo, Uruguay, entre el 5 y el 8 de noviembre de 2008.

El Comité Organizador ha estructurado un amplio e interesante programa científico, compuesto de sesiones plenarias, grupos de discusión y cursos didácticos de la Academia Latino Americana de Epilepsia de la ILAE, centrados en los temas principales del congreso: ‘Neuroimagen en epilepsia’; ‘Cirugía de las epilepsias y sus etiologías’; ‘Cognición y epilepsia’; ‘Controversias en epilepsia pediátrica’; ‘Morbi-mortalidad en epilepsia’; ‘Investigación básica en tejido humano’, entre otros. El congreso terminará con una sesión donde se resumirá lo más destacado del programa. Por supuesto, la presentación de la investigación reciente formará parte muy importante del programa del congreso, por lo que invitamos a todos los investigadores a que envíen sus resúmenes para ser evaluados por el Comité Organizador para su inclusión en sesiones orales y de cartel.

Es de resaltar que en la elaboración del programa se ha procurado una amplia participación de colegas de la región, así como la inclusión de destacados invitados de otras regiones. Deseamos que este variado programa permita la participación interactiva entre los ponentes y la audiencia y cumpla todas sus expectativas.

WELCOME LETTER

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we extend this invitation to the 5th Latin American Congress on Epilepsy. The congress will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay between the 5th and the 8th of November 2008, under the auspices of the International League Against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy.

The Organising Committee have devised a varied and interesting scientific programme, consisting of plenary sessions, discussion groups and ALADE (Academia Latinoamericano de Epilepsia) didactic courses centred around the main themes of the congress: ‘Neuroimaging’ ; ‘Epilepsy Surgery and Etiologies’; ‘Epilepsy Cognition’; ‘Controversies in paediatric epilepsies; ‘Morbi-mortality and epilepsy’; ‘Basic research in human tissue’, amongst others. The congress will end with a highlights session summarising the key points of the congress.

Of course the presentation of recent research is an integral part of the programme and we would encourage all researchers to consider submitting an abstract for review by the Organising Committee for consideration in a platform or poster session.

It should be noted that whilst developing the scientific programme, every effort has been make to involve a wide range of speakers from the region as well as the inclusion of several outstanding speakers from other regions.

We hope that this varied programme will stimulate interaction between the speakers and audience and will fulfill all your expectations.
