As members of Brainwave the Irish Epilepsy Association will know, the subject of SUDEP and the prevention of any epilepsy death when possible, has been one of the enduring passions of my work for Brainwave and, internationally, with IBE.
I am delighted to be able to report that the Presidential Symposium at the 29th International Epilepsy Congress in Rome next week will address this subject under the title Avoiding Epilepsy Deaths. Some of the worlds leading experts on the subject of SUDEP will be speaking at the event, which will be jointly chaired by Nico Moshé, the ILAE President and myself. In addition a number of other events have been arranged throughout the week of the congress, which will also deal with specific aspects of the subject under the same banner of Avoiding Epilepsy Deaths.
The publicity that these events will generate for the issue of SUDEP, together with the anticipated new findings from the many experts on the issue who will be participating, makes this Presidential Symposium a really fitting event to take place in Rome when IBE will celebrate its Golden Jubilee.
