The French National Committee for Epilepsy, CNE (Comité National pour lEpilepsie) issued a Press Release on 29th June, calling on the 56 French MEPs who have not yet signed the EU Written Declaration on Epilepsy to do their duty to support the estimated 500,000 people with epilepsy in France. Just 18 out of a total of 72 MEPs have signed the Declaration, which first opened for signatures in early May.
In appealing to French MEPs to sign the Declaration, CNE points out that France lies well below most other EU countries with regard to the percentage of national MEPs who have signed at this point in the process. In three countries, Ireland, Malta and Slovenia, 100% of MEPs have now signed.
In France, although the number of parliamentarians is much higher, the percentage lies at just 25%. The Declaration opens again for signatures between Monday 4th and Thursday 7th July. A translation of the Press Release can be found below.
The following associations form the CNE:
- Association Francaise pour les Epilepsies
- Fondation Francaise pour la Recherche sur lEilepsie
- Ligue Francaise contre lEpilepsie.
