Epilepsy Foundation of America has announced its new president and CEO, Mr Philip M Gattone. He moves to the Foundation’s national office from an affiliate, the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, where he previously served as president and CEO.
Mr Gattone has a long personal history with the epilepsy community, which began when his son Philip, now 25, was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of four. Since then, he has educated thousands of people across the US about epilepsy and its impact on families. He also has developed curriculum for educators on strategies for building self-esteem and academic achievement in students with epilepsy, as well as a curriculum for students to become better-educated about seizures and epilepsy first aid.
In 2006, he led a US wide initiative helping Epilepsy Foundation affiliates across the country meet national performance standards. He received a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1981 from Bradley University in Illinois and a master’s degree in education in 2000 from National Louis University in Chicago.
