Epilepsy Africa News – Issue 16

Chairperson & Editor’s message This is the 16th issue of Epilepsy Africa newsletter. In 2018 we published 11 issues, then we took the decision to publish once in two months. In this report you will find information about the advocacy projects funded by the BAND Foundation. The exciting news is that we have so far done very well with our advocacy efforts. On 18 February, we opened our new office in Kenya, hosted by KAWE, the epilepsy association there. We did not only open an office, but we have contracted Justine Engole to run the office coordinating not only the advocacy project but the region. Presently, the office will work mainly with five associations that are piloting the advocacy program but in future we want it to work with all associations in the region including those registered with the IBE, those seeking registration, those starting,community groups, professional associations and training institutions. We believe, if we work together we will have meaningful impact. So, I wish to take this opportunity to introduce Ms Justine Engole. Chairperson & Editor’s message This is the 14th issue of Epilepsy Africa newsletter. In this report you will find a detailed report about the human rights workshop held in Mauritius. The report was prepared by Ms Nsachilwa, our Secretary who attended the workshop. Epilepsy Africa News – Issue 13

Epilepsy Africa News – Issue 9

Chairperson & Editor’s message I warmly welcome you to our 9th issue of Epilepsy Africa newsletter. And I have exciting news for all our young people with epilepsy: the IBE is funding projects this year again. Thank you IBE for this kind of support that will allow the region to promote projects by its future leaders. My own vision is for these projects to focus on advocacy through showcasing capabilities (e.g. income project), doing awareness or direct lobbying. Inside this newsletter, you will suggestions on how you can achieve this. You will also find a report of a previous project in Cameroon. By sharing the report, we hope that you will pick important lessons for you to improve your project. Further about advocacy, you will find information about a meeting that I attended in Geneva in May 2018. The meeting was about reducing the challenges people with epilepsy face globally. I am also happy to inform you that while in Geneva, I had a meeting with Mary Secco (IBE Secretary General) and Gardiner Lapham from BAND Foundation, a USA based foundation that has agreed to fund our advocacy project.
